Acupuncture for Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy is a common condition involving loss of normal muscle movements and coordination.
Typically the symptoms of cerebral palsy begin in early childhood. Many
different causes exist for cerebral palsy, including genetic causes,
infections, or vascular problems in the brain during development or
birth.
Symptoms of cerebral palsy are generally lifelong, often requiring
mobility assistance and assistance with activities of daily living. In
addition to these supports, our clinic provides treatments which can
help to reduce some of muscular pains and weakness that patients may
experience. Many of our patients with cerebral palsy have experienced
significant benefits from our treatments.
Acupuncture
research at Harvard Medical School and many other institutions around
the world have determined that acupuncture has profound effects on the
body's physiology. These include a wide range of molecular and cellular
effects on the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system, and
growth-regulatory systems.
As an acupuncturist and holistic health practitioner, Dr. Windsor uses the latest
research
and technology to find solutions for patients with cerebral palsy.
During treatment for cerebral palsy, it may sometimes be necessary to
address another underlying condition or reason for the occurrence of
symptoms.
We will create an integrated treatment strategy for your unique concerns

"In my experience, the treatment outcome for patients with CP can at
times be very positive, with some individuals experiencing significant
improvement such as regaining basic mobility. I have seen older adults
with CP whose mobility improved from this type of treatment.
On occasion, I have received referrals from neurologists for treatment
of patients with CP as young as 3 years old. I definitely believe this
is a worthwhile treatment approach. However, it is good for the family
to understand that any improvements will likely require more than a few
sessions. In a successful course of acupuncture treatment for CP, modest
benefits begin to appear around 5-6 treatments into a 10-week treatment
plan."
