Familial Hypertriglyceridemia directs here.

Acupuncture and Natural Medicine for Pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis refers to an inflammation of the pancreas, which is an organ in the upper left part of the abdomen. In general, this condition is considered a medical emergency and often requires hospitalization. If you believe you may have acute pancreatitis, the appropriate place to go for care is the hospital emergency room.

Patients who have had acute pancreatitis may also experience chronic inflammation or recurring attacks of acute inflammation in the pancreas. Our clinic provides specialized acupuncture and nutritional approaches which can reduce the occurrence of future attacks of pancreatitis.

Symptoms of pancreatitis often include severe burning pain in the upper abdomen and this pain may extend to the back. Within the upper abdomen, the pain is more often felt on the left side. Nausea and vomiting may occur and these may be worse after eating.

While there are many causes of pancreatitis, most cases arise from conditions such as gallstones and overuse of alcohol. Less frequently, pancreatitis may be a result of a genetic or acquired condition of hypertrigleridemia (excess of triglicerides in the blood). For people with risk factors for pancreatitis, emotional stress may also be a contributing factor to recurrence of pancreatitis.

Alcohol can be a major contributor to pancreatitis. Maryland Holistics provides treatment which has helped people with alcohol reduction, as well as other alcohol-related concerns.

As with any medical condition, the proper treatment depends on a thorough understanding of the cause of the condition as well as the patient's overall health status. At our clinic, we focus on natural methods of healing your body, as well as reducing stress and creating healthy lifestyle habits.

Maryland Holistics provides safe and effective treatment which can reduce the future occurrence of pancreatitis.

For best results, we recommend scheduling sessions approximately weekly or at least every 2-3 weeks, for as long as the patient's risk factors for pancreatitis are present. When our treatment is maintained at this frequency, we have seen that patients having significant risk factors (and who previously had many acute episodes) are able to go a year or longer without an attack of acute pancreatitis.
"I have been surprised to see the level of improvement that acupuncture can offer in patients with a rare condition called familial hypertrigylceridemia. This condition can result in recurring pancreatitis, and I have not seen any episodes of recurrrence while these individuals were receiving regular acupuncture treatment in my practice."
