Acupuncture for Myocarditis
Myocarditis is a condition of inflammation in the
heart, which can sometimes lead to palpitations, chest pain, and heart
failure. It can be fatal if not treated. Usually, the cause of
myocarditis is viral. It may also arise from autoimmune diseases such as
sarcoidosis or
lupus. Myocarditis can also be caused by overuse of
alcohol, exposure to radiation, or reactions to some medications.
Lyme disease and other bacterial diseases can also cause myocarditis.
Myocarditis may be mild, moderate, or severe. Patients with moderate or
severe myocarditis require intensive monitoring by a cardiologist. Mild
cases of myocarditis do not always cause symptoms. Patients with
moderate or severe cases of myocarditis are usually treated in the
hospital. The treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the
condition. Treatments generally may include a pacemaker, diuretics,
anticoagulants, and vasodilators.
Acupuncture
research at Harvard Medical School and many other institutions around
the world have determined that acupuncture has profound effects on the
body's physiology. These include a wide range of molecular and cellular
effects on the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system, and
growth-regulatory systems.
Essentially, acupuncture helps the body to increase its natural healing
response. During acupuncture treatment for pericarditis, between 2 and 8
hair-thin needles will be placed on very specific points on the
abdomen, arms, or legs. If you are considering acupuncture treatment for
this condition, you must see an acupuncturist with a high level of
knowledge and skill, with many years of experience.
As an acupuncturist and holistic health practitioner, Dr. Windsor uses the latest
research
and technology to find solutions for patients with myocarditis. During
treatment for myocarditis, it may be necessary to address another
underlying reason for the occurrence of symptoms. We will create an
integrated treatment strategy for your unique concerns and conditions.
We welcome the opportunity to partner with you, and with your
cardiologist and other medical providers, in order to help you maximize
the recovery of heart function.
