Acupuncture for Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a complex condition which can cause symptoms that may include recurring headaches, inflammation and joint pain, severe fatigue, skin rashes, poor memory, back pain, depression, and heart palpitations. A lab test is usually required to find out if you have Lyme. In general, the primary treatment for Lyme is antibiotic therapy over a period of 1-6 months.

If you are taking antibiotics for Lyme (or a similar condition), it is important to take every dose of your medications. Sometimes getting a second opinion on your condition can help to make sure the diagnosis is correct. Seek out specialists who are experienced in treating infectious illness. Lyme should be treated as early as possible.

Sometimes even with the best conventional medicine, symptoms of Lyme can continue over time. Whether you have had Lyme for a short time or a long time, acupuncture may contribute to helping you feel good again. Acupuncture works by helping your body to re-activate its own natural healing abilities. Modern medical research has shown that acupuncture can help the body to release its own naturally occurring pain-relief chemicals, called endogenous opiates. A combination of acupuncture and other medical treatments can help you get back to enjoying your life.

Many people enjoy the way that acupuncture can contribute to a relaxed sense of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. A skilled practitioner can provide high quality acupuncture treatments which are comfortable, safe, and effective. For people experiencing joint pain, depression, or other symptoms related to Lyme, acupuncture can often begin to provide relief within one or two sessions.

Our licensed and experienced practitioners will take the time to listen carefully to your health history, as well as your current health concerns and interests. We will then design a treatment strategy, as unique as you are, to gently, safely, and effectively guide your body toward well-being. Initial consultations are 60-70 minutes, and follow-up sessions are 40-60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are often scheduled at weekly intervals, especially at the beginning of treatment. After a month or so, you may find that a different schedule works well for you, such as twice a month until your symptoms are consistently under control.

If you are interested in acupuncture for addressing symptoms of Lyme disease, we invite you to call today for more information or to schedule an appointment. We would look forward to showing you how much we care about your health, well-being, and happiness.
